Broken S Cattle
Broken S Land & Cattle is based in Aurora, Missouri, raising Red SimAngus cattle with a focus on balance, function, and long-term usefulness. Our program is built around the female first, because we believe the cow herd is the foundation of everything else.
Every breeding decision comes back to one question: how do we make the next cow better? We select for cattle that can hold up in real conditions — sound feet, good structure, fertility, longevity, maternal ability, performance, disposition, and pasture-ready function.
Our cattle are raised on predominantly fescue-based pastures with clovers, lespedeza, and warm-season grasses blended in. They run across rocky hills, boggy river bottoms, and the same kind of ground many of our customers manage every day.
We use modern tools like EPDs, genomics, DNA testing, AI breeding, and rotational grazing systems, but we never forget that cattle still have to pass the eye test and the pasture test. The numbers matter, but so does the cow standing in front of you.
Female-First Genetics
The cow herd is the foundation of our program. We focus on building better females because good cows create long-term value — whether you are raising replacement females, feeder calves, bulls, or registered cattle.
We want cows that breed back, raise a calf, maintain flesh, stay sound, and keep working year after year.
Balanced, Pasture-Ready Cattle
Bigger is not always better, and we do not chase fads just because they are popular. We focus on economically valuable traits that matter in the real world: fertility, longevity, performance, structure, disposition, and maternal ability.
Our cattle are expected to work on grass, travel across rough ground, and hold up in the same conditions they are raised in.
Modern Tools With Common Sense
We believe EPDs, genomics, DNA testing, and AI breeding are valuable tools, and we use them in our program. But numbers alone do not build a good cow herd.
The cattle still have to be functional, sound, productive, and pleasing to the eye. We want cattle that work on paper, in the pasture, and for the people who buy them.
